OUR STORY.....
We are the Clefhangers Concert Band. Members of the Clefhangers Band comprise mainly of parents whose sons or daughters play a musical
instrument in William Clarke College's (Sydney, Australia)
various music ensembles.
In 1998, some of these parent's thought that it would be a
great idea to start a "late starter's" band, so they approached the Conductor of
the school's Concert Band. He thought this was a great idea and was ready,
willing and able, however there was still one more hurdle to jump over - the
School
Principal!
With the approval and encouragement of the Principal, the
word was spread throughout the School Community and the Band held it's first
rehearsal in March of that year. Most of the parents borrowed their child's
instrument - some even had more than one choice! This first rehearsal consisted
of our fearless Conductor showing members how to put their instruments together
and it has been said "which end to blow in". Yes, even though some members had
been taking their child to music lessons for a number of years, they just didn't
have a clue on how to assemble or care
for their instrument.
Our first rehearsals consisted of learning new notes with
the appropriate fingerings and working our way through the Essential Elements
resource books. Before we knew it, we were playing songs such as "Music, Music,
Music", the "Mickey Mouse March", "Power Rock" and "Latin Magic".
The Band has gone from strength to strength, competing in
State and National Competitions. We won the 2001 State and National D-Grade
Concert Band Championships and have thus been re-graded in 2002 to Open C-Grade.
Members work very hard leading up to these events which often require us to
attend extra rehearsals and workshops. Test pieces for these Championships are
always a
big
challenge both on an individual level and as a group.
We also enjoy playing at Community events such as local
Festivals and Fairs, Carols By Candlelight, etc. The Band especially enjoy
giving Concerts where we can play a mixed repertoire of light Novelty,
Broadway/Hollywood
and Contest pieces.
In 2001 the interest by the school community to form
another "late -starters" band brought about the formation of another beginners
band "The Clefhangers On", which in turn would be used as a feeder band for
Clefhangers.
2004 saw the amalgamation of the two bands into one which
will be known as:

"THE CLEFHANGERS" |

The band has enjoyed
travelling interstate to the National Band Championships in Queensland
(2006) and Victoria (2007) and looks forward to future trips. |

In 2007 the band celebrated it's 10th ANNIVERSARY
